I know that some of you have been wishing to see where it is that I create. I invite you to; come into my ‘studio‘!
So, this post will show some pics from my ‘studio’ space. At this point I don’t really have a ‘studio’. But then, what is a studio really? Hmmm, let me see………
Websters dictionary describes a studio as: “The place of work for an artist, photographer, or other creative person…” So, maybe I actually DO have a studio because this is the place where I do my creative work?!! I do dream of having my own fabulous studio space someday – you know, one with a large work space and big windows to the outside and where everything is organized and neat and my art work adorns the walls. 🙂 Why do things and ideas in our minds always seem so amazing and sometimes we fail to see what we have right in front of us??!
So, I guess I already do have a great space, and for now it works just fine. It has big deep windows and sills and there are three of these windows in the room. The next picture shows one of them filled with things that I love. The other two I sometimes use to put smaller easels with art work in.
Two years ago, we moved into an old stone house in the country. The dining room, has this neat little alcove in it, which we were told was originally the space where the band would stand to play their instruments during a grand ball! It doesn’t look big enough for that to me, (well, maybe not by today’s standards anyways) but that is what we were informed! Well, this little alcove has now become my studio space. This wonderful, old, oak lawyers desk fits perfectly into the space and my hubby built an amazing shelving unit for all my paraphernalia:
I love antiques and little old cupboards etc. So I use a lot of them to store various things, like paints, and stamps, and ink pads and pens and pencils and little ‘found’ items such as old keys, watch faces, chandelier crystals etc. etc.
A friend gave me these ‘five loaf – bread pans’. They are awesome for holding different things like, paints, pens, scissors, tape etc. We designed the back shelving around them and I put felt floor protectors under them so that they slide in and out easily. I love the look of them and how practical they are to use.
In the above picture you can see the curtains. I really need these! I put them up in behind the alcove archway trim, so that I could just shut them when the space is a little ‘under the weather’ which is quite often! 🙂 What can I say?, when I’m creating, all organization seems to fly out of my mind! Maybe one of these days I will dare to post a picture of it in full creative mode!
I have been working on some small ‘sketch book journal’ necklaces and so I have been collecting vintage and older jewelry and chains:
All the different chains and beads, sit on one end of my desk or hang from an old antique light beside the desk. The finished necklaces I hang on a seamstress form.
I will do my work either from the desk, or will spread out to the dining room table or use an extra folding table so that I can work between pieces as one is drying. Most often I am using the entire room when I am in full creative mode.
The only problem with that (or maybe I should look at it as a good thing) is that I always have to clean it all up again before supper time.
The finished and half finished works are hanging or on easels in this room, or sitting on pieces of furniture, like the above, side board which is filled with encaustic (wax) pieces. This way while eating or doing other things in that room, I can see them, and sort of critique them at the same time! Works for me, for now anyways. I am so thankful that we have this wonderful home and that there is a space in it where I can create!
