Wow, it’s hard to believe, but this is already the fourth season since I began blogging last September, meaning it has almost been a year of blogging!!
Summer!!
lots of words come to mind when describing Summer; hot, hazy, humid, beaches, camping, family get togethers, campfires, gardens, fresh vegetables and fruits, swimming, biking, sports, reading, relaxing, and many more. Once again it is a season that stimulates all of the senses!
I hear:
~ mosquitoes buzzing when I stay out on a warm evening
~ crickets and cicadas serenading along with the mosquitoes!
~splashing of water as family jumps in the pool to cool off!
~ lawn mowers whirring, tractors running
~ screen doors slamming
I see:
~ hay in the fields laying down in neat rows
~ the fields all rolled up! First into hay and a little later into straw;
~ trees in full summer leaf
~ fields growing up tall
~ cows grazing peacefully in long flowing fields
~ clothes all hung out on the line –Ah, and this makes me think of the fresh smell of sheets hung out to dry and how cozy they make the bed!! There is nothing like fresh sheets from the clothesline!!
I feel:
~ the heat of the sun, sometimes too hot but saying oh so loud that it is summer!
~ the cool of the water in the pool! The warmth of a summer shower!
~ the weight of the humidity, thick and warm
~ the sand in my toes at the beach and the coolness of the lake water,
I smell:
~ fresh mown grass and freshly cut fields
~ yummy bbq smells, which also stimulates the sense of taste! Mmmmm!
~ heady fragrance from various flowers
~ the sweet smell of a campfire!
~ dew as it drops in the evening
I taste:
~ the taste of vegies picked fresh from the garden:
~ fresh watermelon and ice tea on a hot, hot day;
Freshly harvested fruits, baked into something delicious and cool for dessert! Mmmmmmm
I know:
~that once again this is a single season within four that we have in our year, a season to enjoy while it is here, each and every aspect of it. Each and every way that it stimulates the senses!
~to enjoy the heat even if it feels too hot, because it won’t be long and it will be cold again.
~to enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables as it won’t be long and I will have to do with whatever is in the stores or maybe use whatever I have gotten around to canning or freezing.
~to enjoy the times of using the pool or going to the beach, as soon the pool will be closed and the beach will be frozen! (haha, hopefully not too soon!)
~to enjoy all the wonderful smells and sounds of summer, as soon the windows will be closed again as it will be too cold to keep them open.
I am so glad that we have four seasons here in Canada and that each one is so unique and wonderful in it’s own way. For now I am going to enjoy summer to it’s fullest and then I will look forward to the new season of fall!
